The
Suzuki lesson plan is set up to allow very young children (4 & 5
years old) to begin to absorb music in general and violin playing in
particular. The private lesson time can start at 15 minutes. One parent
(or both) is always present to absorb and know what to do with the
child at home as the "home teacher".
When the child is ready, at 5 or 6 years old, he/she moves to a 30
minute lesson (parent still present).
At age 8 or 9, as the child can take on a little home practice
responsibility, the parent starts to withdraw slowly.
By the time the student is in book 4, he/she needs 45 minute lessons to
cover technical development, theory and repertoire. There is one
private lesson each week and in addition to this, a group lesson once a
month.
